Fire risk research An external link has been added from the fire gateway page to the website for the New Zealand Forest and Rural Fire Research programme, based at Forest Research ( http://www.forestresearch.co.nz/fire ) . The site includes pages on fire behaviour modelling, fire danger rating and also the joint tussock fire ecology research project.

This newsletter is provided as an Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) file. (NB: This file is 368 KB).

Grasslands Conservation Council of British Columbia (GCC) website Provides information relating to education, conservation and stewardship of BC's grasslands. This group is a strategic alliance of organizations and individuals, including government, range management specialists, ranchers, agrologists, grasslands ecologists, First Nations, environmental groups, recreationists and grassland enthusiasts.

Sheep fancy hieracium flowers
This paper discusses the effect of sheep grazing on the weed species Hieracium and relates this to patterns of Hieraciuminvasion. The data used was collected from Tara Hills Research Station.

Pastoral Development gateway added, with the following new material:

Soil organic matter quantity, quality and related soil and site properties under tall tussock, short tussock and Hieracium herbfield in dry tussock grassland associations.
This report summary examines relationships between tussock grassland degredation and soil organic matter.

A major MIS redesign and revision has been released as Version 2000. This also coincides with the moving of the system onto the main Landcare Research server.
