Goal: Maintain a Silver Tussock Grassland dominated by native plants

MANAGEMENT GUIDELINE:

  • No grazing.

  • No fertiliser.

  • Establish a buffer zone to protect grassland from the management impacts of neighbouring grasslands (e.g. seed and fertiliser drift)

  • Animal pest control
Rabbits are likely to be the biggest problem.

  • Weed control
Will depend on weeds present. Weeds which can potentially overtop the tussocks(shrubs woody plants) are considered to be a particular problem

for more information on weed control.

  • Monitor to determine success of the management option, and status of weed and animal pest populations. for more information on monitoring in tussock grasslands.

MANAGEMENT GUIDELINE:

  • Light grazing (including cattle), especially in early summer for Hieracium flower control. Try to avoid grazing during peak tussock flowering period (late summer) as these provide the seed source for tussock regeneration.

  • Subdivide block to improve ability to control stock

  • No burning (unless for woody weed control)
