Managing Blue Tussock Grasslands (Poa colensoi) within a pastoral system

NOTE: The slow plant growth response that occurs in the penalpine zone and higher altitudes make pastoral development uneconomic.

At high altitudes Blue tussock is of limited importance however, it is an important component of the pastoral systems at mid altitudes. It will tolerate heavy grazing where oversowing and fertilising have occurred.

  • Monitor to determine success of the management option, and status of weed and animal pest populations. for more information on monitoring in tussock grasslands.
